Felkey was the honoree at his own retirement party on January 30, hosted
by Dean Evans and attended by present and past faculty and staff member
of the Harrison School of Pharmacy. Everyone gathered at the Ariccia
Lounge in the Auburn University Hotel and Conference Center. Attendees viewed a
couple of slide shows of Bill's life from childhood through his present
position as Professor Emeritus of Pharmacy Care Systems for the Harrison
School of Pharmacy. A presentation of gifts was made by Dean Evans and a
framed retirement resolution presented by Dr. Bruce Berger. Afterwards
impromptu speeches were made by various of his colleagues.

On His Retirement
The Auburn University Harrison School of
Pharmacy Recognizes
Bill G. Felkey
Professor Emeritus of Pharmacy Care Systems
We hereby honor Professor Bill Gene Felkey
for 30 years of unselfish service to Auburn University, the Harrison
School of Pharmacy and the Auburn Community. We recognize his untiring
dedication and commitment to excellence in teaching and student learning
in the area of informatics, pharmacy communication, and pharmacy
management.
His tenure at the Harrison School of
Pharmacy encompassed numerous responsibilities including Chair of the
Committee on Admissions and Academic Requirements, Chair of the
Technology Advisory Committee, and service on too many other committees
to mention. If you needed his help, he was always there.
Professor Felkey will be remembered, by
faculty and students alike, as a teacher and mentor who was a model of
integrity and strength of character. He has always been seen as someone
with boundless energy and enthusiasm, always willing to help faculty,
staff and student colleagues discover state of the art hardware, install
the latest software, or solve complex technology problems.
Professor Felkey has
been honored with the 2005 Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy
Alumni Association Distinguished Service Award and the 1997 Auburn
University Outreach Award for Excellence. Bill has received more than a
dozen external awards, and was the founding editor of Computer Medicine
for the Hospital Pharmacist. He has attracted over five million dollars
in funded research, has over twelve hundred publications and
presentations, and in 2004 Bill was selected as the favorite seminar
speaker by pharmacists in a national survey conducted by Drug Topics.
He was favored over Colin Powell, Rudi Giuliani, and Dick Cheney. His
students call him Professor Gadget, and Bill says when you meet him, you
will have met the guy who will die with the most toys.
Professor Felkey leaves behind a legacy of
encouraging out of the box thinking in Auburn University pharmacy
graduates, as well as serving as a mentor to many younger faculty and
staff members. Bill will always be admired for his zeal for student
learning, his positive outlook, and his honesty and integrity. Professor
Bill Felkey exemplifies the Spirit of Auburn through scholarship,
collegiality, and his service to God, country and the Auburn community.
He will be missed more than we can express. We wish him and his family
well as they “ride off into the sunset!”
