Pharmacists, faculty,
alumni and sponsors participated in the 12th Annual Harrison School of
Pharmacy Scholarship Golf Tournament at Auburn Links at Mill Creek on
September 26. This was our second time at Auburn Links and the club did
not fail to deliver with its beautiful environment of lakes, pebbled streams and
golf cart trails winding through the fall hued hardwoods.
Student Pharmacists, faculty, staff and alumni came to support a good cause, have a
good time
and put in a little practice on their golf game. Everyone enjoyed a
glorious day for golf. But, in the end, the real reason everyone showed
up was to support student scholarships. This year's efforts paid off
well with $20,700 raised for scholarships.
Even though the putting contest had it's share of takers, everyone appeared to be
waiting for the relatively new contest called the Ball Drop. Auburn's
mascot, Aubie, agreed to do the honors by being lifted up to a
dizzying height in a crane so that he could toss a bucket full of golf
balls onto the green below. The winner with the nearest ball to the hole
this year was
Mrs. Carolyn Campbell, the School's main receptionist. She went home
with $500.00.
Aubie always brings some fun when he shows up for one of
our events. At one point he grabbed a scorecard and pen and wrote down his
imaginary scores. Even though he tried to sneak it into the pot, he
didn't succeed. He even got into the lunch line trying to collect some hamburgers
and hot dogs, but decided to bow out. Maybe that's why he stay so
thin. However, he was gracious enough to pose for photos with anyone who asked.
(See Aubie's antics in our slideshow on the left menu bar.)
Other contests were for 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Low Net; 1st, 2nd, and
3rd Place Low Gross; Closest to the Pin; Longest Drive;
Highest Handicap; the Putting Contest and the silent auction. Most winning
golfing teams
received engraved crystal trophies. (See all winners in our slide
show.)
Items that were donated by our sponsors for the Silent Auction
included a MP3 player, a Kodak
digital camera, golf bags and a regulation
size football signed by Coach Tommy Tuberville. Two
Nintendo Wii's were very hot items. A beautifully framed tiger print by
artist Ashley Garst was also donated.
The Tournament Coordinators,
Jimmy Harris and
Jennifer Delmore of Development and Alumni
Relations,
reported receiving lots of positive feedback about this year's
tournament. We would like to thank them for all the hard work they've
done putting this event together.
We couldn’t be successful in these kinds of events
without a lot of hard work from the
HSOP Dean's administrative staff:
Many thanks to Brinda Lisano,
Leigh Ann Ballad, Laurie Newton, Laurie Smith, Selena Day, April Staton, Jane Drake and our
student pharmacist volunteers.
Thank you to our Corporate Sponsors:
